Appointed faculty members are expected to devote a minimum of ten teaching hours per academic year. If you are interested in a faculty appointment:

It should include listings of all academic institutions attended with degrees awarded, residency and fellowship training, board certifications and certification expiration dates, all prior teaching experience and all prior and existing academic appointments.

How do I apply for an academic promotion?

Promotion is one way the School of Medicine recognizes and rewards a faculty member for contributing to the education of medical students and engaging in scholarship and service. Continued employment requires faculty to maintain high professional competence and accomplishment, meeting their professional obligations and assignments on a consistent basis.

In the normal course of events, faculty will be eligible for promotion approximately every 5-7 years they are in a given rank. Exceptional candidates may be eligible for promotion in a compressed time frame. Promotions progress from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and then to Full Professor.

Please review the Appointments and Promotion Policies and Procedures for more details.

What is Netter’s faculty development requirement?

Faculty members must complete four hours of Netter School of Medicine-approved faculty development in the first year of teaching students and two hours of development annually, after the first year’s requirement is fulfilled. They must also attend at least one in-person training session every three years.

How do I fulfill the faculty development requirement?

To fulfill your requirement:

  • Log in to Blackboard
  • Go to ”Netter Faculty Development’ located under My Organizations
  • Click on the Requirement tab and scroll to the bottom of the page
  • Click on “Fulfill my Requirement”

For more help, watch this video on using the faculty development Blackboard site and fulfilling your requirement.

How do I keep track of my faculty development hours?

A record of your hours will be kept in the grade center in your Blackboard account.

Do I need to report my faculty development hours or are they recorded automatically?

Hours are automatically recorded in the grade center only for the online modules within the faculty development Blackboard site. For all other activities, such as live sessions, you must sign in for your attendance to be recorded. At the end of each academic year, the faculty development program coordinator will inform you of the number of hours you have completed toward your faculty development requirement.
